IIE DIGITAL EDSK : June 3, 2025 — The political response to recent criticisms by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to launch an extensive booth-level outreach programme across West Bengal. The move comes as the ruling party braces for an intense electoral battle, particularly in the run-up to the next Lok Sabha elections.

The TMC leadership has directed all its district committees and local workers to begin a grassroots campaign aimed at defending the Mamata Banerjee-led government against what they term as “deliberate misinformation and unjustified attacks” from the Prime Minister and BJP leaders. The booth-level campaign, likely to be called the “Ghar Ghar TMC” programme, will emphasize direct engagement with voters in every locality, making it clear that the party is in full gear to counter the BJP's growing rhetoric in the state.

The programme will officially be launched later this week, with senior TMC leaders overseeing the campaign in key districts like North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Nadia, and Hooghly. Each booth committee — usually responsible for a few hundred voters — will be tasked with distributing leaflets, holding small meetings, and highlighting the state government’s achievements in areas such as social welfare, health, education, and infrastructure.

TMC’s general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who is spearheading the strategic response, said, “The Prime Minister is deliberately targeting the Bengal government with half-truths and political lies. We will go to each and every house and present the truth — the truth of development, of Duare Sarkar, Lakshmir Bhandar, and of Mamata Banerjee’s inclusive governance.”

The party also plans to use social media platforms more aggressively to amplify its voice. A team of digital volunteers has reportedly been formed to counter online narratives and share ground reports from the campaign. “The BJP is not just attacking us from podiums; they are running social media campaigns loaded with propaganda. We are ready to challenge that as well, with facts and figures,” said a senior TMC IT cell member.

The PM’s recent comments in public meetings, accusing the West Bengal government of corruption, mismanagement, and failing to control political violence, have triggered sharp reactions from the TMC. Party spokespersons have been quick to point out the central government's failure to release pending state dues, especially under schemes like MGNREGA and PM Awas Yojana. They argue that the Centre’s political vendetta is hurting the people of Bengal.

Meanwhile, political analysts believe that this grassroots campaign could act as a powerful mobilisation tool for the TMC if executed effectively. “Booth-level engagement has been a strong suit of the TMC in the past. Reinvigorating that structure amid political attacks could strengthen their narrative and ground presence significantly,” said Professor Amitava Chatterjee, a political scientist based in Kolkata.

The BJP remains unfazed by the development. State BJP leaders have termed TMC’s programme as “a desperate move to deflect from administrative failure.” BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, “People of Bengal have seen through the TMC’s false promises. No amount of booth meetings will erase the memories of violence and corruption.”

As political temperatures rise, all eyes are on how the TMC’s latest strategy unfolds at the booth level — the very foundation of electoral mobilisation. Whether it can neutralize the BJP’s attacks or not, one thing is certain: the road to 2026 will be one of high-octane political drama and grassroots battles.
