IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Mahbubnagar, September 10: The road accident in Telangana’s Mahbubnagar district claimed the life of a truck driver and resulted in the deaths of more than a hundred goats after a goods vehicle carrying livestock crashed into an electricity pole and caught fire in the early hours of Thursday.

According to police and fire department officials, the accident occurred at around 4 am on National Highway 44 near Bhutpur village in Mahbubnagar. The DCM truck was reportedly carrying between 150 and 200 goats when it veered into an electric pole and collided with it.

The impact of the collision caused the vehicle’s diesel tank to rupture. Fuel spilled from the damaged tank and, apparently coming into contact with sparks generated during the crash, triggered a massive fire. The flames rapidly engulfed the entire vehicle, leaving little opportunity for the animals trapped inside to escape.

The driver of the truck died at the spot in the devastating blaze. A large number of goats travelling in the vehicle were also trapped inside and were burnt alive. Officials said that all the goats being transported in the truck were killed in the fire, with the exact number of animal fatalities being assessed.

The intensity of the blaze was such that the entire truck was reduced to ashes. Thick flames and smoke reportedly spread around the accident site, prompting an immediate response from the fire and emergency services.

After receiving information about the incident, fire personnel rushed to the spot and launched operations to bring the flames under control. The firefighters eventually managed to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.

Police personnel also reached the accident site and began an investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash. The body of the deceased driver was recovered from the site and sent for post-mortem examination as part of the investigation.

A fire department official in Mahbubnagar said that an assessment of the overall damage was currently under way. Authorities are also examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, including how the truck lost control and struck the electricity pole.

The incident caused shock in the area, particularly because of the large number of animals that died in the fire. The accident has once again highlighted the dangers associated with transporting large numbers of livestock in goods vehicles, particularly on busy national highways during night and early-morning hours.

Officials are continuing to investigate the accident and determine the precise cause of the collision. Further details are expected to emerge as the police investigation and assessment of the damage progress.
