IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, September 10: West Bengal is once again facing the threat of a fresh low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, with the developing weather disturbance likely to bring another spell of rain to several parts of the state. According to the Alipore Meteorological Office, several districts of South Bengal are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, while some coastal districts may witness heavy showers under the influence of the system.

A cyclonic circulation has reportedly formed over the north Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists believe that the circulation could develop into a low-pressure area, which may subsequently influence weather conditions over southern West Bengal. With increased moisture flowing into the region, cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall are expected across several districts.

The weather office has issued a specific advisory for fishermen in view of the developing system. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea until September 11. The advisory comes amid the possibility of deteriorating weather and rough conditions over the Bay of Bengal as the system gradually develops. Fishermen and those involved in marine activities have been urged to remain cautious and follow the weather department's instructions.

The coastal districts are likely to experience the strongest impact of the system. East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram and South 24 Parganas have been identified as areas where heavy rainfall is possible. These districts could experience periods of intense showers, particularly as the weather system gains strength over the Bay.

Other districts of South Bengal are also likely to receive light to moderate rain. The rainfall may occur intermittently, keeping skies largely cloudy and maintaining high levels of humidity across the region. Although the rain may provide relief from uncomfortable weather conditions in some places, heavier showers could lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas.

The current weather system is expected to remain influential over Bengal for the next couple of days. However, the Meteorological Department has indicated that rainfall activity is likely to decrease after two days. This means that while widespread rain is expected in the immediate period, the intensity and coverage of showers may gradually decline thereafter.

North Bengal is also expected to remain under the influence of unstable weather conditions. During the next two days, almost all districts of North Bengal may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The possibility of thunderstorms could result in sudden changes in weather, prompting residents to remain cautious during periods of lightning and heavy showers.

The weather department has further forecast the possibility of heavy rain at one or two places in North Bengal on September 11, 12 and 13. While the rainfall may not be widespread across the entire region, isolated areas could receive intense showers during this period.

Kolkata and its adjoining areas are expected to remain predominantly cloudy. The city may witness occasional rain, although the overall weather is likely to remain humid. The cloudy conditions could dominate the skyline for much of the day as the latest weather system continues to influence the region.

On Thursday morning, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 26.7 degrees Celsius, which was 0.3 degrees Celsius above normal. Despite the possibility of rain and overcast skies, the temperature remains slightly higher than the seasonal average, indicating that humidity will continue to play a major role in the city's weather conditions.

The renewed possibility of a low-pressure area has once again highlighted the active nature of the monsoon over Bengal. The system developing over the north Bay of Bengal could strengthen the flow of moisture towards the state, resulting in increased rainfall activity in both South and North Bengal.

For South Bengal, the immediate concern remains the possibility of heavy rain in the coastal and adjoining districts, while the rest of the region is likely to experience light to moderate showers. Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas may need to remain alert to sudden heavy rainfall and associated waterlogging.

For fishermen, however, the advisory remains particularly important. With the weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal, they have been asked to stay away from the sea until September 11. The restriction is intended to prevent accidents at sea as weather conditions could become more turbulent.

The system develops, meteorologists will continue to monitor its movement and intensity closely. For now, residents across West Bengal should prepare for another few days of unsettled weather, with rain likely to continue in South Bengal and thunderstorms expected across North Bengal before rainfall activity gradually decreases after the next two days.
