IIE DIGITAL DESK : South Bengal, including Kolkata, as pleasant weather conditions returned following days of humid heat. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that no significant heavy rainfall is expected in Kolkata and nearby districts in the immediate future.

The India Meteorological Department, while South Bengal will largely remain dry, temperatures in Kolkata and surrounding districts are likely to rise by three to four degrees Celsius over the next two days. The region may gradually return to warmer conditions despite the temporary relief brought by Friday night’s showers.

North Bengal is expected to witness intense rainfall activity. Districts such as Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Kalimpong, and Alipurduar are likely to experience heavy rainfall until Sunday. The forecast also warns of very heavy rainfall in parts of Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, raising concerns about localised flooding and disruption in low-lying areas.

Meteorologists have also predicted strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph accompanying the rain in these northern districts, which may impact daily life and transportation in hilly and rural regions. Despite the heavy rain warning, temperature levels in North Bengal are expected to remain relatively stable over the next week.

The contrasting weather patterns between North and South Bengal highlight the ongoing monsoon transition phase, with the northern districts continuing to receive moisture-laden systems while the southern parts experience intermittent relief followed by rising heat conditions.
