IIE Digital Desk : In a heartfelt tribute to Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Manish Ranjan Mishra, who was tragically killed in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, residents of Purulia's Jhalda region have initiated a campaign to name a local road after him. This gesture aims to honour his sacrifice and keep alive the memory of his service to the nation.

Manish Ranjan Mishra, originally from Jhalda, had recently relocated to Hyderabad with his family. He had returned to his ancestral home in Purulia for a family reunion when he was caught in the deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam. The incident, which occurred on April 22, 2025, resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including Mishra, who was on vacation with his wife and children.

The residents of Jhalda, along with local organizations such as the Jhalda Nagarik Manch (Jhalda Citizens' Forum) and the Jhalda Cricket Association, have come together to propose the naming of a prominent road in the area after Mishra. The initiative has garnered widespread support from the community, with many residents expressing their desire to commemorate his bravery and dedication.

A 12-hour strike was observed in Jhalda as a mark of respect for Mishra. Shops and commercial establishments remained closed, and a memorial service was held to honour his memory. Local leaders and citizens gathered to pay their respects and discuss ways to ensure that Mishra's legacy is preserved within the community.

The proposal to name a road after Mishra has been submitted to the Purulia district administration. Local officials have expressed their support for the initiative, acknowledging the significance of such a tribute. "We are considering the proposal and will take appropriate steps to honour the memory of Manish Ranjan Mishra," said a district official.

The campaign has also received attention from political leaders. Union Minister of State and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar is expected to attend Mishra's cremation in Jhalda. His participation underscores the political acknowledgment of Mishra's sacrifice and the community's efforts to commemorate him.

The residents of Jhalda remain united in their resolve to honour one of their own who gave his life in service to the nation. The proposed road naming serves as a lasting tribute to Manish Ranjan Mishra's dedication and sacrifice.
