will open its doors to the public on April 30, 2025, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. She also revealed plans to attend the inaugural Rath Yatra, which will commence from Digha in the same year.
The temple, located on Samudra Sarani along the seashore, is designed to mirror the Jagannath Temple in Puri. Spanning 22 acres, the complex is nearing completion, with approximately 90% of the construction work finished. The remaining 10% is expected to be completed within the next three months.
During a site inspection, Chief Minister Banerjee pledged ₹5 lakh from her personal funds for the procurement of a golden broom, symbolizing cleanliness and sanctity. She also highlighted that the state government has invested ₹250 crore in the project, with additional funds allocated for enhancing the Masir Bari and the adjoining ghat area.
The temple complex will feature guest rooms, rest areas, an administrative building, a police outpost, and fire service provisions. Local women from self-help groups will have the opportunity to sell traditional products, contributing to the community's economic development.
A trust, led by the Chief Secretary, will oversee the temple's operations, ensuring its smooth functioning. The trust will comprise 15-20 members, including the District Magistrate, Superintendent of Police, and representatives from ISKCON, Sanatan Trust, and local priests.
This initiative aims to enhance spiritual tourism in Digha and provide a significant cultural landmark for the region.
