Congress restores party office in Krishnanagar following court ruling

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Krishnanagar, June 3: The Congress party has finally regained possession of its party office located near the Krishnanagar bus stand in Nadia district. On Tuesday, district Congress leaders, accompanied by party workers and supporters, took back control of the office after obtaining a copy of the court order issued by the Nadia district court.

The dispute dates back to 2017 when supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress allegedly occupied the party office by using political influence and administrative power. The Congress claimed that despite approaching local authorities and lodging complaints with the police, no effective action was taken to restore possession of the property.

Faced with what it described as administrative inaction, the party approached the Krishnanagar Munsif Court by filing an eviction suit seeking the restoration of its office premises. Following years of hearings and legal proceedings, the court reportedly delivered its verdict in favour of the Congress in 2023 and directed the eviction of those deemed to be illegal occupants of the property.

The office on Wednesday, a senior district Congress leader and legal representative of the party explained the background of the property. He stated that in 2014, the land was allotted to the Congress on a 99-year lease with the approval of the Krishnanagar Municipality. The party office was subsequently constructed with financial contributions from party members, workers, and supporters.

The Congress leader further noted that the inauguration ceremony of the office had been attended by several distinguished personalities, including former President of India Pranab Mukherjee, making the building an important political and organisational centre for the party in the district.

Congress leaders have alleged that the implementation of the court’s order was delayed due to administrative obstacles and political interference. They claimed that despite securing a favourable judgment, the process of reclaiming the property took additional time because of resistance at various levels.

The district leadership has now announced that the restored office will serve as the principal centre for Congress organisational activities across Nadia district. As part of its renewed political programme, the party has already planned to organise a blood donation camp as its first major event from the recovered premises.

The development is being viewed as a significant symbolic victory for the Congress in Nadia district, highlighting the role of the judiciary in resolving long-standing political and property disputes. Party workers celebrated the restoration of the office, describing it as the successful culmination of years of legal and organisational efforts.
