Massive Central Force Deployment Across West Bengal Before Assembly Polls, 480 Companies to Cover Districts in Two Phases

IIE DIGITAL DESK : The formal announcement of the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, the Election Commission has rolled out an extensive security blueprint, deciding to deploy a total of 480 companies of central forces across the state. The move underscores the Commission’s emphasis on ensuring free, fair and peaceful polls in what is expected to be a high-stakes electoral battle. While 240 companies have already arrived and been stationed in various districts during the first phase, details of the second phase deployment of the remaining 240 companies were officially released on Monday, providing a clear picture of district-wise distribution.

Darjeeling will have a total of 11 companies, with 6 already deployed and 5 more arriving in the second phase. Siliguri Police Commissionerate will see 5 companies in total, evenly split between the two phases. Kalimpong will have 4 companies, with 3 already on the ground and 1 more to follow. Cooch Behar is set to receive 15 companies, 9 of which have already been stationed, while Alipurduar will have 7 companies after the second phase reinforcement. Jalpaiguri will host 10 companies, most of which have already reached.

North Dinajpur’s Islampur Police District, 9 companies will be deployed, with 5 already present, while Raiganj Police District will have 10 companies after the second phase addition. South Dinajpur will retain 10 companies with no further additions planned. Malda is earmarked for 18 companies in total, with 12 already stationed and 6 more to be deployed. Murshidabad Police District will witness one of the larger deployments with 20 companies, split between 8 in the first phase and 12 in the second. Jangipur Police District will have 15 companies overall.

Nadia district, Krishnanagar Police District will have 13 companies, while Ranaghat will see a total of 9 companies. Kolkata, being a crucial electoral hub, will have a significant presence of 30 companies, with 12 already deployed and 18 more arriving soon. Howrah Police Commissionerate will have 10 companies, and Howrah Rural will have 11 after the second phase. Hooghly Rural is set for 16 companies, while Chandannagar Police Commissionerate will have 11 in total.

North 24 Parganas, Barasat Police District will see 11 companies, Bongaon will have 6, Basirhat will receive 17 after the second phase surge, and Barrackpore Police Commissionerate will host 19 companies. Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate will have 5 companies. In South 24 Parganas, Baruipur will have 13 companies, Diamond Harbour 11, and Sundarban 9 after reinforcements.

East Midnapore stands out with 28 companies evenly divided between the two phases, while West Midnapore will have 20. Jhargram will see 11 companies. In Purba Bardhaman, 25 companies will be deployed, and Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate will have 17. Birbhum will receive 21 companies, Purulia will reach a total of 20 after 15 more arrive in the second phase, and Bankura will have 13 companies overall.

With such an expansive deployment plan, the Election Commission aims to strengthen ground-level security, boost voter confidence and prevent any untoward incidents. The phased arrival of forces reflects a carefully calibrated strategy to maintain law and order across sensitive and strategic constituencies as the state gears up for a crucial electoral contest.
