IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kharagpur, May 23: BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Saturday blamed the global financial situation for the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices in India, saying that international economic instability has been putting enormous pressure on the country’s economy and fuel sector for years.

Kharagpur over the issue of rising fuel prices, Dilip Ghosh said that the impact of global economic conditions can no longer be ignored, as fluctuations in international crude oil markets and financial uncertainty across the world are directly affecting India’s economy. He stated that petrol and diesel prices have been increasing over the years and that both the government and oil companies have been struggling to manage the situation.

The government had earlier tried to shield citizens from the burden of rising fuel prices by providing subsidies on petroleum products. However, he claimed that oil companies have now crossed a limit and are facing significant financial losses, leaving the government with little option but to increase fuel prices. He further said that the present situation demands adjustment from ordinary citizens as well, adding that people should try to reduce unnecessary expenditure and adapt to the changing economic realities.

Dilip Ghosh also launched a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. Criticising the functioning of local representatives from the party, he alleged that several councillors and panchayat heads are no longer regularly attending their offices. He claimed that many of them are avoiding public appearances and are even skipping important meetings called by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Ghosh alleged that despite Mamata Banerjee convening meetings, many party representatives are not turning up, and nobody seems to know where they are. Accusing them of corruption, he claimed that several leaders are afraid to face the public because of alleged irregularities and scams, and are therefore constantly moving from one place to another to avoid public anger and scrutiny.

The BJP leader’s remarks come at a time when rising fuel prices and inflation continue to remain major political and economic issues across the country, with opposition parties and ruling governments trading blame over the impact of global economic pressures and domestic policy decisions.
