Guwahati (August 16,2023) : A Hindi film was screened publicly in Manipur for the first time in 23 years on Tuesday. The film, "Uri: The Surgical Strike", was screened at a local cinema hall in Churachandpur district. The screening was organized by the Hmar Students' Association (HSA), a local tribal organization. The HSA said that it screened the film to show its defiance to the ban on Hindi films in Manipur.
The ban on Hindi films was imposed in 2000 by the Revolutionary Peoples' Front (RPF), a militant group. The RPF said that the ban was imposed to protect Manipuri culture and identity. The HSA said that it was time to lift the ban on Hindi films. The association said that Hindi films are an important part of Indian culture and that they should be accessible to people in Manipur. The screening of "Uri: The Surgical Strike" was a success. The cinema hall was packed with people, and the film was well-received. The HSA said that it plans to screen more Hindi films in Manipur in the future.
