New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has claimed that Meta restricted access to his social media account in India without offering any explanation, triggering fresh questions over transparency in the company's content moderation practices.

Kejriwal said he discovered that users in India could no longer access his account. According to him, he reached out to Meta's India office several times through emails and other communication channels, seeking clarification. However, he claimed that he received only automated acknowledgements and no clear explanation for the restriction.

Expressing his disappointment on social media, the former Delhi Chief Minister questioned why his account had been blocked in India and criticised Meta's response, calling it "pretty bad service." He also urged the company to remain independent and not give in to political pressure. Meta has not yet publicly responded to his allegations.

The issue comes at a time when Meta's content moderation policies are already under close scrutiny in India. In recent months, the company has faced criticism over its handling of high-profile political accounts, fuelling an ongoing debate about the role of social media platforms in balancing content moderation with freedom of expression.

It remains unclear why Kejriwal's account was restricted. The action could have resulted from an automated system, a possible policy violation, or a technical issue, but Meta has not issued any official statement clarifying the reason behind the move.

The episode has once again highlighted the growing influence of social media platforms in political communication and renewed calls for greater transparency and accountability when restricting access to the accounts of public figures.
