
IIE DIGITAL DESK , June 25: Host nation Mexico continued their impressive FIFA World Cup campaign by defeating Czechia 3-0 in their final Group A match, becoming the first team in the tournament to win all three of their group-stage matches and advance to the knockout round with a perfect record.
The emphatic victory at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City also saw Mexico achieve a remarkable milestone. It marked the first time since Italy in 1990 that a host nation has won all of its group-stage matches at a FIFA World Cup, underlining the team's dominance in front of its passionate home supporters.
Although Mexico controlled much of the possession during the first half, Czechia managed to keep the hosts at bay and entered the break with the scoreline still level. Mexico concluded the Group A campaign with nine points from three matches, maintaining a flawless record and comfortably securing top spot in the standings.
