Rahane, who played alongside Dhoni for India and also shared dressing rooms with him in the IPL, said Dhoni’s calm nature made him approachable for players of all ages. Speaking on the Overlap Cricket YouTube channel, Rahane recalled that Dhoni’s room was usually open to teammates, sometimes becoming a place where a large part of the squad would gather.

“His room was almost always open for anyone. Many times, 10 to 15 players or even the whole team would be there. But when his door was closed, everyone respected that and nobody entered,” Rahane explained.

The simple rule, according to Rahane, reflected Dhoni’s personality perfectly — welcoming and friendly, yet someone who valued discipline and personal space. It showed the balance that made Dhoni such an effective leader: building strong relationships while maintaining professionalism.

Dhoni’s ability to keep the team together through informal interactions was considered one of his biggest strengths. Many young players have credited him for reducing pressure, offering valuable advice, and helping them handle the challenges of international cricket.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues over Dhoni’s future as a player. The former India captain missed the entire IPL 2026 season after a leg injury kept him away from competitive action.
