IIE DIGITAL DESK : India opener Gautam Gambhir has expressed his desire to see former captain MS Dhoni one day take charge as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Speaking at a recent event organized by RevSports, Gambhir shared his admiration for Dhoni and recalled their iconic 2011 ODI World Cup victory, highlighting the enduring connection between the two cricketing legends despite their publicly known occasional differences.

Gambhir, who is now India’s head coach, reflected on the recent T20 World Cup celebrations, during which Dhoni had sent him congratulatory messages, and said he hopes to reciprocate the gesture in the future. He emphasized that if Dhoni assumes the role of India’s coach, he would like to see him smiling in the dugout so that he, Gambhir, could acknowledge him on social media in the same warm manner.

“I hope that one day he occupies my position, and I can send him my greetings on social media just as he did for me,” Gambhir remarked. “It would be wonderful to see him happy and smiling while observing the team in the dugout.” He noted that managing expectations and the pressures of the game while maintaining a smile on the field is challenging, referencing his own experience as India’s coach where the intensity of the World Cup final made it difficult to always remain cheerful.

While Gambhir’s comments have generated excitement among fans eager to see Dhoni return to an official role in Indian cricket, there has been no response yet from Dhoni regarding this suggestion. The former captain’s potential transition from legendary player to mentor and coach remains a topic of widespread speculation in cricket circles.

Gambhir’s statement underscores the mutual respect and admiration between two of India’s most celebrated cricketing figures and highlights the enduring legacy of their partnership on the world stage, bridging past triumphs with hopes for future leadership roles.
