IIE Digital Desk : The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, has put forth recommendations to the Centre for the appointment of Chief Justices to several High Courts across the country. The Collegium highlighted existing vacancies in the offices of Chief Justices in the High Courts of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, and Kerala, with anticipated vacancies in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Meghalaya. Justice Manmohan has been endorsed for the position of Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, noting his current role as Acting Chief Justice and his standing at No. 3 in the national seniority list of High Court Judges. Similarly, Justice Rajiv Shakdher has been recommended for the role of Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court following a vacancy created by the transfer of Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao. The Collegium also proposed Justice Suresh Kumar Kait for the position of Chief Justice for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, subsequent to the elevation of Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh to the Supreme Court. Justice Kait, a senior judge of the Delhi High Court and belonging to the Scheduled Caste category, holds the fifth position in the seniority list of High Court Judges. Justice G.S. Sandhawalia, the most senior puisne judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been recommended as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, considering the significance of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as one of the largest in the country. Furthermore, the Collegium recommended Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, the senior-most puisne judge of the Bombay High Court, to assume the role of Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court upon the retirement of Justice Ashish J. Desai. In Meghalaya, Justice Tashi Rabstan, the senior-most puisne judge of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, has been proposed as Chief Justice, a move aimed at providing representation from the Ladakh region for the first time in the role of Chief Justice. Lastly, Justice K.R. Shriram, the second senior-most puisne judge of the Bombay High Court, has been recommended as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court following the retirement of Justice Sanjay V. Gangapurwala. These recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium seek to fill key judicial leadership positions in various High Courts, ensuring continuity and effective administration of justice across the states concerned.00000000000
