IIE DIGITAL DESK : Businessman Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for nearly two hours on Wednesday in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in a land deal in Rajasthan. Vadra appeared before the ED office in Delhi after being summoned in relation to a money laundering case linked to land transactions in Bikaner, a matter that has been under probe for several years.
According to officials, Vadra was asked about his connection to a series of land deals conducted by companies allegedly linked to him. The ED suspects that illegal transactions were carried out by acquiring land in collusion with local officials using forged documents and then selling them at highly inflated prices. Vadra reportedly cooperated during the questioning and provided responses to the agency’s queries. After nearly two hours of interrogation, he was allowed to leave.
This is not the first time Robert Vadra has faced ED questioning. He has previously been interrogated in connection with land deals in Haryana and Rajasthan, as well as alleged foreign asset holdings. However, Vadra has consistently denied any wrongdoing, terming the charges as politically motivated and aimed at maligning his image and that of the Congress party.
The Congress party has also criticized the timing of the summons, alleging that it is part of a political agenda to target opposition figures during the election season. Meanwhile, ED officials maintain that the questioning is part of the standard procedure and is being conducted in accordance with legal protocols.
The case, which involves allegations of money laundering and benami transactions, remains under investigation, and further summons or legal actions have not been ruled out by the agency.
