
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, June 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the people of the country on the occasion of World Environment Day, emphasizing India’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. In a social media post, the Prime Minister stated that the occasion serves as an opportunity to strengthen collective resolve towards safeguarding the environment and building a sustainable future for coming generations.
The achievements made in the field of environmental conservation, Prime Minister Modi said that government initiatives over the years have contributed significantly to increasing the country's forest cover. He also noted that the populations of several wildlife species have shown remarkable growth due to focused conservation efforts and improved ecological management.
The Prime Minister praised all individuals, organizations, environmentalists, and community groups dedicated to protecting nature and preserving ecological balance. According to him, the people of India have demonstrated how collective efforts, effective policies, and faith in science can bring about meaningful improvements in environmental conditions and biodiversity conservation.
Stressed that environmental protection is not merely the responsibility of governments but a shared duty that requires active participation from every citizen. The success achieved in several conservation projects, he said, reflects the positive impact of public awareness and sustained commitment toward ecological preservation.
Prime Minister Modi further remarked that India takes immense pride in its rich biodiversity. He pointed out that the country's diverse ecosystems support countless species of flora and fauna while also sustaining the livelihoods of millions of people who depend on natural resources. The preservation of these ecosystems, he said, remains a key national priority.
“We are extremely proud of our biodiversity in India. Our diverse ecosystems support countless species and livelihoods. Our efforts in special restoration projects have also been noteworthy. Conservation initiatives for the Great Indian Bustard, Snow Leopard, Sloth Bear, and Cheetah have demonstrated how consistent commitment can help restore wildlife populations and ecosystems,” the Prime Minister said.
The success of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, which encourages citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers. According to the Prime Minister, the initiative has made a substantial contribution to afforestation efforts across the country and has played a significant role in creating nearly 1.19 lakh hectares of forest cover every year.
The Prime Minister reiterated that environmental sustainability and economic development must go hand in hand. He emphasized that India remains committed to pursuing growth while protecting natural resources and biodiversity. On World Environment Day, he called upon citizens to continue participating in conservation efforts and to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
The importance of preserving nature for future generations and highlighted India's ongoing efforts to strengthen forest cover, protect endangered species, and promote sustainable development through community participation and scientific innovation.
