
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 6: Tension ran high outside the office of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) as large-scale protests erupted when arrested former Trinamool Congress MLA Shaukat Molla was being taken to court on Saturday. The moment the former legislator appeared outside the NIA office, a large crowd gathered at the spot began shouting “Thief, Thief” and raised slogans against him.
The investigating agency, the former Trinamool MLA had been arrested by the NIA following questioning in connection with a specific case. On Saturday morning, as officials initiated the process of escorting him from the NIA office in Kolkata to the court, the situation quickly turned volatile.
A significant number of people had already assembled outside the agency’s office. As Shaukat Molla was being escorted towards the vehicle that would take him to court, members of the crowd expressed their anger and resentment, with loud chants of “Thief, Thief” echoing through the area. The slogans intensified as he was moved under heavy security arrangements.
To prevent any untoward incident and maintain law and order, a large contingent of police personnel and central security forces was deployed in and around the NIA office. Despite the extensive security presence, the protest created considerable commotion and disorder during the process of transporting the arrested former MLA to court.
Authorities remained on high alert as the situation unfolded, while security personnel worked to ensure that the court transfer proceeded without further disruption.
