
Sumit Ray reached Bhawani Bhavan at around 9:49 am on Sunday, in accordance with a notice issued by the investigating agency. He did not make any comments before entering the CID office and went straight inside to appear before the investigators.
The latest appearance came after Ray had been questioned for nearly 10 hours on Saturday in connection with an alleged land corruption case. After the lengthy interrogation on Saturday, investigators directed him to appear before them again on Sunday for further questioning. Following the instructions, Ray returned to Bhawani Bhavan on Sunday morning.
According to information available in connection with the case, state investigators had summoned Sumit Ray for questioning as part of their probe into the alleged land corruption case. CID officers had visited his residence in New Alipore on Friday and served him with a notice directing him to appear before the investigators at Bhawani Bhavan on Saturday morning.
Following the notice, Ray reached Bhawani Bhavan at around 10 am on Saturday. He subsequently remained inside the CID office for several hours while investigators questioned him about matters connected with the ongoing investigation. After nearly 10 hours of questioning, he finally left Bhawani Bhavan at around 8 pm.
It was subsequently learnt that the investigators had asked him to appear again on Sunday. A fresh direction was issued requiring him to report to the CID office at 10 am on Sunday for further questioning. Ray accordingly arrived at Bhawani Bhavan before the scheduled time.
The repeated questioning of Abhishek Banerjee’s personal assistant has drawn attention amid the ongoing investigation into the alleged land corruption case. Investigators are examining various aspects of the case and are seeking information from individuals who may have knowledge of transactions or other matters relevant to the probe.
Ray’s second consecutive appearance before the investigators indicates that the questioning process is continuing. While he did not speak to the media on either occasion, his arrival at Bhawani Bhavan on Sunday morning was closely followed by journalists and others present outside the state investigation agency’s headquarters.
The investigation agency had first approached Ray at his New Alipore residence on Friday, when officers served him the notice requiring his appearance. The subsequent questioning began on Saturday morning and continued for almost the entire day. After completing the first round of questioning, investigators issued another direction for him to appear on Sunday.
On Sunday, Ray arrived at the CID office at 9:49 am, slightly ahead of the scheduled 10 am reporting time. He entered the premises directly without responding to questions from reporters. The investigators are expected to continue questioning him regarding different aspects of the alleged land corruption case.
The development comes as the state investigation agency continues its probe and gathers information from people connected with the case. The repeated summons and questioning of individuals associated with prominent political figures have also attracted considerable political and public attention in the state.
