IIE Digital Desk : China is pushing for the expansion of the BRICS bloc of emerging economies to become a full-scale rival to the G7, the group of wealthy Western countries. The BRICS countries are Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. They account for about 40% of the world's population and 25% of the global economy. China has been the driving force behind the BRICS expansion. It has invited Argentina, Indonesia, Iran, and Saudi Arabia to join the bloc. The expansion of BRICS would be a major geopolitical development. It would create a new bloc of countries that could challenge the dominance of the G7.

The G7 countries have been concerned about the rise of China and its growing influence in the world. They have accused China of unfair trade practices and human rights abuses. The expansion of BRICS would give China a stronger voice on the global stage. It would also give the bloc a bigger say in international organizations, such as the United Nations. The expansion of BRICS is still in its early stages. It is not clear if all of the invited countries will join the bloc. However, the Chinese push for expansion is a sign of China's growing ambition on the global stage.
