Over In today's world, many people find themselves facing insufficient sleep, poor diets, and minimal exercise. Over the past few years, diabetes has surged, with increasing numbers of children and adolescents being diagnosed. In India, this issue has become particularly severe, with one in five adults expected to be diagnosed with the disease.

Diabetes is a metabolic disease that occurs when the body becomes resistant to or produces no insulin, leading to high blood glucose levels. Diabetes can occur in two main types: microvascular and macrovascular. Microvascular diabetes includes complications like diabetic retinopathy (eye problems), nephropathy (kidney issues), and neuropathy (nerve dysfunction). Macrovascular diseases include coronary artery disease, which can result in heart attacks, strokes, and peripheral arterial disease affecting the limbs.

Several risk factors contribute to diabetes, such as obesity, tobacco use, inadequate physical activity, unhealthy diet, and family history. Smoking can cause both microvascular and macrovascular complications, leading to premature death.

Regular blood glucose monitoring, periodic full-body check-ups, limiting alcohol consumption, getting adequate sleep, and avoiding drug abuse are all essential in managing diabetes.
