Chaitra Navratri Begins with Spiritual Fervour: Goddess Durga Worshipped as Shailputri on Day One
IIE DIGITAL DESK : March 19: The sacred festival of Chaitra Navratri commenced on Thursday with deep devotion and traditional rituals across India, marking the beginning of nine auspicious days dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga in her nine divine manifestations. On the first day of the festival, devotees offered prayers to the goddess in her revered form as Shailputri, symbolising strength, purity, and the divine feminine energy.
Temples across the country witnessed large gatherings of devotees from early morning, as special pujas, aartis, and rituals were performed to seek blessings for peace, prosperity, and well-being. In Surat, a significant number of worshippers thronged the renowned Ambaji Temple Surat, where the atmosphere was filled with chants and devotional fervour as the festival began on a grand note.
A similar scene unfolded in Lucknow, where devotees gathered at the famous Chandrika Devi Temple to perform rituals dedicated to Goddess Shailputri. The temple परिसर echoed with devotional hymns as people participated in prayers with deep faith and enthusiasm.
In the national capital New Delhi, the iconic Jhandewalan Temple saw a massive influx of devotees, with long queues forming as people waited patiently to offer their prayers and attend the aarti on this auspicious occasion.
According to Hindu beliefs, Goddess Shailputri is considered the daughter of the Himalayas, and her worship marks the beginning of the spiritual journey during Navratri. She is depicted riding a bull and holding a trident and a lotus, representing courage, strength, and divine grace. Devotees observe fasts, engage in prayers, and perform rituals throughout the nine days to seek her blessings.
The nine-day-long Chaitra Navratri celebrations unfold, homes and temples are adorned with flowers and lights, and the air resonates with devotion and spirituality. The festival not only signifies religious observance but also reflects the rich cultural heritage of India, bringing together millions in collective faith and celebration.
