West Bengal (July 08,2023) : Voter turnout was low in the first four hours of the panchayat elections in West Bengal on Saturday, with only 22.60% of voters casting their ballots. The turnout was particularly low in the rural areas, where only 18.50% of voters had voted by 12 noon. The low turnout is being attributed to a number of factors, including the lack of enthusiasm among voters, the absence of any major electoral contests, and the violence that has marred the election campaign.

Five people have been killed in election-related violence so far, including a Trinamool Congress worker and a BJP worker. There have also been reports of clashes between supporters of different political parties. The Election Commission has deployed 1.1 million security personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections. However, the violence has raised concerns about the safety of voters and the fairness of the elections.
