IIE DIGITAL DESK : Hooghly, May 9: Goghat of Hooghly district on Saturday as the Bharatiya Janata Party marked the formation of its government in West Bengal with community celebrations, including the distribution of free jhalmuri and laddoos among the public near the Goghat bus stand area.

The celebrations coincided with the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, which was held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. The event also took place on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary (25th Baishakh), adding cultural significance to the political developments in the state.

Early morning, BJP workers and supporters from various parts of Hooghly district travelled to Kolkata by buses and trains to attend the grand ceremony. In Goghat, arrangements were also made to broadcast the swearing-in ceremony on large screens, allowing local residents to witness the event live.

The area saw visible enthusiasm among party supporters, with celebrations continuing throughout the day. According to local BJP leaders, the initiative was taken to share the joy of what they described as a “historic political change” in West Bengal. They stated that the people of the state were celebrating the beginning of a new administrative era.

Ajay Santra, said that the party workers were actively distributing free jhalmuri to both supporters and general public from the morning hours, and the programme was expected to continue throughout the day.

The BJP leadership in the area said that the celebration was meant to reflect public happiness over the political transition and to connect with people at the grassroots level through simple community participation activities such as food distribution and public gatherings.

The day’s events in Goghat reflected a mix of political enthusiasm and local celebration as supporters marked the occasion of government formation in West Bengal.
