IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Chennai, June 23: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay stated that serving the people is his duty. Speaking during the reply to the Governor’s address in the Assembly on Tuesday, he said that governance must remain focused on public welfare.
Chief Minister Vijay said, “I express my gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu. Serving the people is our duty. Even if there are differences of opinion, we must work together for the welfare of the public. I thank the people of Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East.”
He further responded to critics who say he entered politics directly from film sets, saying, “In their language, that was just ‘reel’ (cinema world). Even when we were working as a fan club, we stood by the people. In 2009, through public movements, we implemented various welfare programmes for the people.”
He added that through cinema, they spoke about social justice and corruption issues, and in 2011 they held public meetings in support of fishermen and raised concerns on their behalf. They also supported the Jallikattu movement and personally extended support during the Sterlite protests.
Chief Minister Vijay said that scholarships and incentives were provided to help meritorious students continue their education. He also mentioned that all these efforts eventually led to the formation of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
