IIE DIGITAL DESK ; New Delhi, June 10: The national capital, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday morning at 10 Janpath. The meeting comes just a day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s interaction with former Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the same residence, intensifying political speculation about opposition unity.

Abhishek Banerjee arrived at 10 Janpath and held a closed-door meeting with Rahul Gandhi. The discussions reportedly lasted for nearly one and a half hours and were described as “positive” by party insiders familiar with the meeting. However, no official joint statement has been issued by either side so far.

Political observers believe the back-to-back meetings between top leaders of the Trinamool Congress and the Congress signal renewed efforts to strengthen coordination within the opposition bloc. Some analysts suggest that both parties may be attempting to rebuild bridges and consolidate their position in the national political landscape at a time of increasing challenges for opposition forces.

The meeting gains further significance as it follows Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Sonia Gandhi at 10 Janpath on Tuesday. According to TMC sources, the interaction between the two leaders focused on broader political cooperation and strengthening opposition unity under the INDIA alliance framework.

The meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Abhishek Banerjee, discussions are believed to have centered around the functioning and future strategy of the INDIA alliance, including ways to resolve differences among constituent parties and present a united front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Party insiders also indicated that the leaders discussed the current political situation in West Bengal, where the Trinamool Congress has recently faced several organisational and electoral challenges.

The last assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress has been dealing with internal political turbulence. The party has reportedly faced setbacks in both parliamentary and organisational structures, with claims that around 20 Lok Sabha MPs have shown signs of dissent and are supporting the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, adding to the political pressure on the ruling party in the state.

Against this backdrop, the recent sequence of meetings in Delhi is being viewed as strategically important. While neither the Congress nor the Trinamool Congress has officially confirmed any major political shift, the discussions are widely seen as an attempt to recalibrate opposition dynamics ahead of future electoral battles.

Political activity intensifies in the capital, all eyes remain on whether these high-level engagements will translate into a stronger and more coordinated opposition alliance in the coming months.
