IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, May 28: Kolkata and South Bengal as recent spells of storms and rainfall have led to a noticeable drop in temperatures, bringing much-needed comfort after days of humid and uncomfortable weather conditions. According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, the cooling trend is expected to continue over the next two days, with a further fall in temperature likely across several districts of the region.
Thursday morning, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees below the seasonal average. The weather office has indicated that the combination of rain-bearing systems and gusty winds is responsible for this dip in mercury, offering temporary relief to residents who had been struggling with rising humidity levels.
Officials from the Alipore Meteorological Department have forecast that rainfall activity will persist in various districts of South Bengal until Saturday. During this period, intermittent rain accompanied by strong winds is expected to continue, keeping the weather conditions unstable. The department has also warned that wind speeds may remain high at times, contributing to rough local conditions and further suppressing daytime temperatures.
Terms of temperature trends, a drop of up to 4 degrees Celsius is likely by Saturday across parts of South Bengal, according to forecasts. This cooling phase is expected to peak by the weekend before conditions begin to gradually stabilise.
Given the rough sea conditions, authorities have issued a strict advisory warning fishermen against venturing into the sea until Friday. The sea is expected to remain turbulent due to prevailing weather systems, posing risks to small and medium fishing vessels operating along the coast.
North Bengal as well, rainfall activity is expected to continue in the upper districts until Friday. However, meteorological officials suggest that rainfall intensity will reduce from Saturday onwards, although scattered showers may still occur in isolated areas. The weather department has noted that while the region will gradually see a reduction in rainfall activity, unstable atmospheric conditions may still persist intermittently.
South Bengal is likely to see a significant decline in storm and rain activity, marking the end of this short-lived wet spell. However, from Monday onwards, humidity levels are expected to rise again, potentially bringing back discomforting conditions for residents as clearer skies return and moisture content in the air increases once more.
