IIE DIGITAL DESK : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee delivered a strong and emotional message of unity and communal harmony during the Mahavir Jayanti celebrations in Kolkata. Addressing a gathering at the event, Banerjee declared, “Even if I am shot, I will not leave the path of unity and peace.” Her words resonated deeply with the audience, drawing widespread applause and reinforcing her commitment to maintaining Bengal’s inclusive culture.

The Chief Minister’s speech focused on the principles of Lord Mahavir, who preached non-violence, truth, and harmony among all living beings. Mamata Banerjee said these teachings are more relevant today than ever, especially at a time when divisive politics are threatening the social fabric of the country. She stressed that Bengal has always set an example in communal harmony, where people of different faiths celebrate each other’s festivals with joy and mutual respect.

In a veiled attack on forces attempting to create unrest and hatred, Banerjee asserted that no matter what threats come her way, she would continue to work for unity, peace, and justice. She urged people, especially the youth, to follow the path of Lord Mahavir and stand against any attempt to divide society.

The Mahavir Jayanti programme, attended by members of the Jain community and various dignitaries, also saw Banerjee highlighting Bengal’s spiritual richness and cultural heritage. She reiterated that her government remains committed to protecting the rights of all communities and ensuring peaceful coexistence across the state.

In a time of growing political tension, Mamata Banerjee’s defiant yet peaceful message underscores her determination to keep Bengal rooted in its legacy of unity.
