IIE DIGITAL DESK: The Supreme Court has sharply condemned coaching centers for their role in the deaths of several UPSC aspirants, labeling their practices as "playing with lives." The court's remarks came in response to a petition highlighting the extreme pressures and unsafe conditions faced by students preparing for the UPSC exams.
In its ruling, the SC accused these institutions of exploiting students by prioritizing profits over their well-being. It emphasized that the intense and often unregulated training environment contributes to severe stress and mental health issues among aspirants, which in some tragic cases, leads to loss of life.
The court has called for immediate reforms, urging the government to enforce stricter regulations and ensure that coaching centers operate within a framework that safeguards students' health. This includes setting guidelines for stress management and ensuring psychological support is available.
