Global Recognition for Indian Talent: PM Modi Commends Teams for Their Olympiad Achievements

IIE DIGITAL: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated India’s young science talents for their remarkable achievements at international Olympiads, describing their success as a moment of immense pride for the nation. He said the exceptional performances by Indian students on global platforms would inspire countless youngsters to develop an interest in science and aim for greater achievements.

In a post on X, PM Modi celebrated the outstanding performance of the Indian team at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), where all four participants won gold medals. He congratulated Debadatta Priyadarshi, Harshit Singhal, Kabeer Chhillar, and Sandeep Kuchi, calling their achievement India’s best-ever performance at the prestigious competition.

The Prime Minister praised the students for their dedication, intelligence, and passion for chemistry, stating that their success has brought pride to the entire country and would encourage more young minds to explore scientific fields.

PM Modi also shared his appreciation for India’s achievements at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Vilnius, Lithuania. He congratulated Bhavyaa Gunwal, Soumil Maity, Nishit Kalani, and Anmol Kumar after all four members of the Indian team secured medals, including one gold.

Highlighting their exceptional knowledge across areas such as molecular biology, biochemistry, animal physiology, animal morphology, systematics, and plant computational biology, the Prime Minister said their performance reflects India’s growing scientific potential and will motivate future generations.

The International Chemistry Olympiad, launched in 1968, is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious competitions for secondary school students. The annual event brings together the brightest young chemistry enthusiasts from different countries, challenging them through advanced theoretical and practical examinations.

India achieved a historic milestone at this year’s IChO by recording its best-ever result and securing the top position in the medal tally alongside China, Vietnam, and the Individual Participants Group B from Russia. The competition featured 363 students from 93 countries, making it the largest edition in the history of the event. India also achieved its first-ever all-gold medal performance at the Olympiad.

Over its 27 appearances at the IChO, India has built an impressive record, with students winning 32% gold medals, 51% silver medals, and 17% bronze medals. The country’s performance has improved significantly in recent years, with gold and silver medal success rates reaching 43% and 53% respectively in the last decade.

India also delivered a strong performance at the 37th International Biology Olympiad 2026, where the competition was held in Vilnius from July 12 to 19. A total of 307 students from 78 countries participated, with medals awarded across gold, silver, and bronze categories.

This marked India’s 26th appearance at the IBO. So far, Indian participants have secured 17 gold medals, 69 silver medals, 17 bronze medals, and one honourable mention, reflecting the country’s consistent progress in biological sciences.

Earlier, India created another landmark achievement at the 56th International Physics Olympiad 2026 in Bucaramanga, Colombia. All five members of the Indian physics team won gold medals, helping India secure a joint World No. 1 position alongside China, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea, and Taiwan.

The Indian physics team’s gold medal winners included Kanishk Jain from Pune, Riddhesh Anant Bendale from Indore, Rishit Garg from New Delhi, Shresth Suraiya from Mumbai, and Svarit Joshi from Ahmedabad.

The remarkable achievements across chemistry, biology, and physics Olympiads underline India’s rising influence in global science competitions and showcase the extraordinary talent, dedication, and potential of the country’s young generation.
