IIE DIGITAL DESK : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the official datesheet for its 2025 supplementary examinations for Class 10 and Class 12 students. Offering both compartment and improvement opportunities, the exams will begin on July 15, 2025, giving students a crucial second chance to either clear failed subjects or boost their grades.

• Class 10 Exams: Scheduled from July 15 to July 22. The timetable opens with Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence exams on July 15, followed by Mathematics, languages, and core subjects across the week.

• Class 12 Exams: All supplementary papers will be conducted in a single day—July 15, covering diverse subjects from Electives and Sciences to Humanities and Vocational streams .

Exams will start at 10:30 AM, with most papers lasting three hours, while vocational and skill-based papers carry a shorter two-hour duration, concluding by 12:30 PM . Students will also receive 15 minutes reading time before each test.

These examinations are open to:

• Students who did not pass one or more subjects in the regular board exams.

• Students aiming to improve their scores—Class 10 candidates can retake up to two subjects, while Class 12 students may enhance performance in one subject .

• Both disciplines offer an additional opportunity without delaying academic progression—no loss of an academic year .

CBSE has emphasised strict compliance with examination norms:

• Communication devices—including mobiles & smartwatches—are banned inside exam halls; violations may incur penalties under Unfair Means rules.

• Students must follow admit card instructions regarding their specific subject exam duration.

• Educational institutions must apply by June 17, 2025, on behalf of eligible candidates .

• Discipline and punctuality are expected; students should arrive before 10:15 AM to account for verification and seating.

These reforms align with NEP 2020, which promotes flexible assessment schedules and better post-exam transparency—including revaluation options—aimed at reducing academic pressure and facilitating quicker grade improvements. The board’s updated process allows students to:

1. Obtain scanned copies of their answer sheets.

2. Apply for re-verification or re-evaluation online.

3. Appear for the supplementary exam if desired .

This sequence supports secure, transparent, and accessible evaluation pathways.

Following the results announced on May 13—93.66% pass rate for Class 10 and 88.39% for Class 12—the supplementary exams offer a vital recourse for students who narrowly missed passing or wish to raise their marks . High-performing regions like Trivandrum and Vijayawada also top initial results, reinforcing the importance of score improvement for competitive college entries.
