Kolkata (July 10,2023) : The decision of the West Bengal government to re-employ former teachers in vacant posts in some central schools in the state has raised questions. The government has issued a notification inviting applications from former teachers who had retired from central schools in the state. The teachers will be re-employed on a contract basis for a period of one year.

The decision has been met with criticism from some quarters. They argue that the government should first fill the vacant posts through a regular recruitment process. They also point out that the re-employment of former teachers will deprive young and qualified candidates of a chance to get a job. The government has defended its decision, saying that it is a temporary measure to address the shortage of teachers in some central schools. The government has also said that it will soon start a regular recruitment process for teachers.
