IIE DIGITAL DESK : Krishnanagar Police have decided to establish a permanent police camp in Molandi village, Kaliganj, following a surge in post-election violence including the tragic death of 13-year-old Tamanna Khatun in a bomb blast. The decision comes as part of efforts to ensure safety and swiftly address any future incidents in the area .

The Molandi region erupted into unrest following the recent Kaliganj by-election. According to reports, a bomb blast during TMC’s victory celebrations claimed the life of a young girl and several socket bombs were reportedly discovered nearby . In response, police had temporarily stationed guards in the area to manage the situation and maintain order.

Krishnanagar Police operated a temporary picket near Molandi. However, given the serious nature of the incidents and the village’s distance from the Kaliganj police station, officials have opted for a long-term solution: a fully functional permanent camp in Molandi. This permanent base aims to accelerate emergency response, prevent disorder, and provide steady reassurance to residents .

Local sources confirm that a residential building currently under construction has been rented to house the camp. The initial deployment will include:

  • 2 officers

  • 5 police personnel

  • 10 civic volunteers

If the setup progresses smoothly, the formal inauguration is expected by July 8–9 .

The permanent camp is expected to:

  • Reduce response times for local emergencies

  • Deter future violence and explosive incidents

  • Maintain continuous law-and-order presence in a region prone to post-electoral unrest

By instituting direct oversight and a sustained police presence, the initiative seeks to promote lasting peace and community confidence.

On the day of the violent outbreak, authorities recorded FIRs against 24 individuals. Already, 9 arrests have been made, and ongoing efforts continue to track down the remaining suspects .

With stationing now transitioning from temporary to permanent, police affirm that the new arrangement will better address Molandi’s security challenges. The upcoming inauguration is expected to be a pivotal step in restoring order in post-election Molandi.

This initiative reflects a serious commitment by law enforcement to secure the Molandi community through swift action, permanent deployment, and pragmatic measures to ensure that election-related violence does not recur.
