Several states, including West Bengal, along with primary education boards and associations representing in-service teachers from different states, had approached the Supreme Court seeking a review of the earlier order regarding the deadline for clearing TET.
After hearing the review petitions, a bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Manmohan delivered its verdict on Friday, granting an additional year to serving primary teachers for obtaining the mandatory TET qualification. Earlier, the deadline for clearing the examination was fixed till August 2027. The court has now officially extended that deadline to August 31, 2028.
The Supreme Court clarified that all currently employed primary school teachers who are yet to qualify the Teacher Eligibility Test must pass the examination within this extended time frame in order to comply with the prescribed eligibility requirements for teaching positions.
