IIE DIGITAL DESK : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a crucial security review meeting on Friday with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan and the heads of the three armed forces—Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. The meeting, held at the South Block in New Delhi, was also attended by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and other top officials from the defence establishment.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of escalating tensions along the border, following a series of cross-border incidents reportedly involving missile and drone attacks launched from Pakistan. These threats targeted military zones in key areas including Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. The Indian Armed Forces responded swiftly, neutralizing the incoming threats without suffering any major losses. The situation prompted an immediate high-level review of the country’s security preparedness.

In the detailed briefing presented to the Defence Minister, the service chiefs and the CDS outlined the operational status of Indian forces, ongoing surveillance efforts, and the response mechanisms already deployed to counter such provocations. The discussions focused on India's immediate and long-term strategic posture, as well as coordinated defence measures across land, air, and maritime domains.

Defence Minister Singh was apprised of the success of India’s air defence systems in intercepting hostile drones and missiles, and how rapid intelligence sharing and real-time coordination between the services played a critical role in averting possible large-scale damage. The Armed Forces reaffirmed their state of high alert and confirmed that additional measures have been put in place to prevent any surprise escalations along the Line of Control (LoC) or elsewhere.

Minister Singh lauded the armed forces for their alertness and readiness in dealing with the recent security threats. He emphasized that India remains committed to peace but will not tolerate any compromise on its sovereignty or the safety of its citizens. The Defence Minister reiterated the government’s full support to the military and called for continued vigilance amid the evolving regional security dynamics.

He also directed the services to remain proactive in their surveillance, intelligence gathering, and preparedness in order to deter future attempts to destabilize the region. The emphasis was on joint operations, technological modernization, and inter-service coordination to maintain strategic superiority in all potential theatres of conflict.

The meeting concluded with a collective affirmation of India's resolve to protect its borders and national interests. Officials noted that such routine and responsive reviews play a vital role in keeping India’s security apparatus agile and battle-ready in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

This strategic review comes at a time when the region remains on edge due to heightened cross-border activities. The Centre is expected to continue high-level consultations to ensure that the Indian Armed Forces remain equipped and empowered to face any challenge posed by hostile forces.
