IIE DIGITAL DESK ; June 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the monsoon is likely to arrive in parts of West Bengal within the next two to three days. According to the latest forecast issued on Monday, the monsoon may also advance into Odisha and Chhattisgarh during the same period.

Officials said that the initial monsoon onset is expected over North Bengal and Sikkim, followed by its gradual movement into the Gangetic plains of West Bengal. The IMD’s projection suggests a phased progression of the monsoon system across eastern India.

The weather department has also noted that the arrival of the monsoon could bring relief from the prevailing high humidity levels that have been causing discomfort in the region. With the onset of seasonal rains, a noticeable drop in sultry conditions is expected.

The Alipore Meteorological Department, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall are likely to continue across South Bengal in the meantime. Kolkata and surrounding areas may also experience spells of rain and gusty winds over the coming days.

Meteorologists have suggested that rainfall activity in South Bengal may reduce slightly after Wednesday. In contrast, North Bengal is expected to witness an increase in rainfall intensity as the monsoon system strengthens further in the region.

Authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather pattern, as monsoon progression remains crucial for agriculture and water resources across West Bengal and neighboring states.
