Dispur (July 14,2023) : Assam is on high alert as Bhutan prepares to release excess water from the Kurichu Dam on Friday, July 14. The dam is located on the Kurichu River, which flows through both Bhutan and Assam. The release of water from the dam is necessary to prevent flooding in Bhutan. However, it could also cause flooding in Assam. The Beki and Manas rivers, which flow through Assam, are tributaries of the Kurichu River.

The Assam government has alerted all district administrations in the downstream areas of the Beki and Manas rivers. The administrations have been asked to take necessary steps to evacuate people from low-lying areas and to provide relief materials. The Indian Army has also been put on alert and is ready to provide assistance if needed.
