The incident occurred at the Padmavathi Kalyana Mandapam on Tiruchanur Road, a significant wedding venue run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). The search for answers to a difficult marriage led to the death of two respected local elders in juggernauts.

He had already faced legal action in the aftermath of the separation, which involved filing a dowry harassment lawsuit against his wife's family. Tensions between the two families persisted despite the ongoing conflict.

Sunil's mother-in-law, Sampurnamma, who works at Tirumala and is known as "Samurai," became the only person to learn of his attendance at a wedding on Tiruchanur Road. With the intention of challenging him and seeking redress, she informed that Munirathnam and Manikantha were the two local elders who had previously assisted in coordinating and backing the wedding. According to witnessess, these two men came to the marriage ceremony and confronted Sunil about his choice to divorce his wife. The venue was the site of a heated argument that both attendees and guests were quick to identify.

Sunil's younger brother, sister, and another relative were said to have joined the confrontation as tensions heightened. An unexpected surge of violence ensued. According to sources, Police alleged that Munirathnam and Manikantha were attacked in front of the public with knives.

After being stabbed multiple times, Munirathnam passed away at the scene. Manikantha sustained severe injuries and was quickly transported to Tirupati's Ruia Hospital by onlookers. He resorted to emergency treatment, but his injuries eventually proved fatal.

The attack, which occurred in broad daylight near a busy wedding venue, left residents in shock and caused widespread anger. The aftermath's pictures and videos quickly went viral on social media, fueling public anxiety about the lethal nature of unresolved family conflicts.

After the attack, authorities registered a murder case and began pursuing the suspects who had fled shortly after. Special police teams were formed to pursue the accused in their pursuit. To track their movements, technical evidence was used to track mobile phone data and initially suggested an escape route towards the Andhra Pradesh–Tamil Nadu border. Police later said three suspects, including Sunil.
