Ritabrata reaches the assembly, speculations about the signatures of the rebel MLAs

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 3: The controversy surrounding alleged forged signatures and growing political uncertainty within the Trinamool Congress, suspended MLA Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay arrived at the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday along with fellow legislator Sandipan Saha. Their arrival has intensified speculation that a letter bearing the signatures of several rebel Trinamool Congress MLAs may be submitted before the Assembly authorities during the day.

Political circles were abuzz with discussions after reports emerged that Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay was carrying documents purportedly containing the signatures of multiple legislators dissatisfied with recent developments within the party. The move is being viewed as a significant development in the escalating internal dispute that has recently come to the forefront.

Several legislators and political figures accompanied Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay to the Assembly premises. Among those present were Shiuli Saha, Riaz Hossain, Imani Biswas and Sabina Yasmin. Reports also indicated that three legislators from Howrah district were present during the proceedings. In addition, Arunava Sen was also seen arriving at the Assembly.

Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay arrived at the Assembly with a letter claiming the support of 59 MLAs. As the day progressed, more legislators from the party continued to arrive at the Assembly, adding further intrigue to the unfolding political developments. Those present reportedly included Arup Roy, Shiuli Saha and Akhruzzaman.

The developments come just days after the Trinamool Congress expelled Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay and Sandipan Saha from the party. The disciplinary action was announced on Monday and marked a significant escalation in tensions between the party leadership and the two legislators.

Both expelled MLAs have maintained that no formal proposal regarding the selection of the Leader of the Opposition was adopted during a meeting held on May 6. They have questioned the legitimacy of subsequent decisions and have continued to challenge the party's position on the matter.

The alleged signature controversy and the reported support of dozens of legislators have now added a fresh dimension to the political situation within the Assembly. While the authenticity and implications of the documents remain the subject of intense discussion, political observers are closely monitoring the developments to determine whether the episode could have wider consequences for the balance of power and internal dynamics within the Trinamool Congress.

With rival claims and counterclaims continuing to emerge, all eyes remain on the Assembly as lawmakers and party leaders await further developments in what has become one of the most closely watched political controversies in West Bengal.
