Discomforting Heat Persists in South Bengal, Heavy Rainfall Warning for North Bengal

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 3: Although temperatures are not expected to rise significantly over the next 24 hours, humid and uncomfortable weather conditions will continue across South Bengal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum daytime temperature in South Bengal may increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours. However, after that, temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged. Kolkata and several districts of South Bengal are expected to continue experiencing oppressive and uncomfortable weather conditions.

Wednesday morning, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 29.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.4 degrees above the seasonal normal.

The Alipore Meteorological Department, the likelihood of thunderstorms and rainfall is expected to increase across both North and South Bengal from Thursday onward. Districts including North and South 24 Parganas, Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and Purba Medinipur are likely to witness more significant thunderstorm activity and rainfall.

The weather office has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour in these districts. Meteorologists also indicated that temperatures in South Bengal may decline slightly towards the weekend, bringing some relief from the prevailing humid and uncomfortable conditions.

North Bengal is likely to experience heavy rainfall from Thursday onwards. The weather department has issued a warning of intense showers in several northern districts, with the possibility of localized heavy downpours continuing over the coming days.
