IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 3: State minister and senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday took a sharp swipe at Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee over her protest demonstration held on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Ghosh dismissed the dharna as an insignificant political event and claimed that it lacked genuine support from within her own party.
Commenting on the gathering, Dilip Ghosh said, “This was not a massive public mobilisation. It was an event that had to be arranged forcefully. None of the party’s Members of Parliament or Members of the Legislative Assembly participated in it. The only people who attended were those who had nowhere else to go and those who continue to enjoy special privileges. No one is standing beside her.”
The BJP leader further alleged that the political situation in the state has changed significantly and pointed to what he described as shifting loyalties among political workers and supporters. He remarked, “The very people who once used abusive language against our leaders are now garlanding them and seeking their blessings. Times do change, but people are fully aware of what these individuals have done in the past. Ultimately, it is the public who will evaluate and judge their actions. Whatever verdict the people deliver will be the correct one. Who are we to decide otherwise?”
Mamata Banerjee’s recent allegation that nearly 70 percent of houses in Gujarat are illegal, Dilip Ghosh questioned the basis of her claim. He said, “Has she personally gone there and verified whether those houses are legal or illegal? Before making such allegations, they should first look at their own situation. Their own houses are illegal—this is something they should keep in mind first.”
The exchange marks the latest round of political sparring between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, with both sides continuing to target each other over governance, development, and administrative issues ahead of future political contests in the state.
