IIE DIGITAL DESK :Sukanta Majumdar, Member of Parliament and West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of attempting to create a "Greater Bangladesh" by allegedly threatening Hindu communities in the state. Majumdar's remarks come amid rising tensions and communal unrest in various parts of Bengal.

In a statement, Majumdar claimed that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government's policies and actions were systematically marginalizing Hindus, thereby fostering an environment conducive to the alleged creation of a "Greater Bangladesh." He further alleged that these actions were part of a broader strategy to alter the demographic and cultural fabric of the state.

The term "Greater Bangladesh" refers to a conspiracy theory suggesting that Bangladesh has aspirations of territorial expansion into the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura, and parts of Assam. This theory has been popularized by some Indian Hindu nationalist leaders, who allege that Bengali Hindu regions in India are being Islamized and becoming more amenable to integration with Bangladesh through illegal immigration and political maneuvering.Wikipedia

Majumdar's comments have sparked a political controversy, with the TMC dismissing the allegations as baseless and politically motivated. The party accused the BJP of attempting to communalize the political discourse in Bengal for electoral gains.

The BJP, on the other hand, has rallied behind Majumdar's statements, asserting that the party will continue to expose what it perceives as the TMC's appeasement politics. The situation has intensified the already charged political atmosphere in Bengal, with both parties accusing each other of undermining communal harmony.
