IIE DIGITAL DESK : Apara Ekadashi, a significant observance in the Hindu calendar dedicated to Lord Vishnu, will be observed on Friday, May 23, 2025. This sacred day falls on the 11th lunar day (Ekadashi Tithi) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha.

According to Drik Panchang, the Ekadashi Tithi begins at 1:12 AM on May 23 and concludes at 10:29 PM the same day. The Parana, or the ritual of breaking the fast, is scheduled for the following day, Saturday, May 24, between 5:25 AM and 8:10 AM.

Apara Ekadashi is also known as Achala Ekadashi and is believed to cleanse devotees of past sins, leading them toward spiritual liberation (moksha). The observance involves fasting, prayer, and rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu, particularly in his Vamana avatar.

Devotees typically begin the day with a holy bath, followed by the performance of specific puja rituals and the chanting of mantras such as "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya." Fasting is observed throughout the day, with the fast being broken during the Parana period on Dwadashi, the 12th lunar day.

The significance of Apara Ekadashi is highlighted in Hindu scriptures, where Lord Krishna explains its virtues to Yudhishthir during the Mahabharata era. It is believed that observing this fast with devotion can lead to the purification of the soul and the attainment of peace and prosperity.

In addition to its spiritual benefits, Apara Ekadashi is considered auspicious for seeking forgiveness for past misdeeds and for embarking on a path of righteousness. The day holds immense religious and astrological significance, offering devotees an opportunity for deep spiritual reflection and connection with the divine.

As the observance approaches, devotees are encouraged to prepare for the fast and rituals with sincerity and devotion, aiming to reap the spiritual benefits associated with this sacred day.
