IIE DIGITAL DESK : Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has spoken candidly about his views on method acting, describing it as a technique that can sometimes give performers too much freedom under the guise of staying in character.

The recent conversation at an acting masterclass, Aamir Khan explained that while method acting allows deep immersion into a role, it can also become an excuse for actors to behave without restraint on set. He remarked that some performers use the idea of “staying in character” to justify actions that may not always align with professional discipline. He added that he personally avoids such extremes and prefers a more structured approach to his performances.

The actor further reflected on his own abilities, modestly stating that he does not consider himself a “great actor” in the traditional sense. Instead, he credited his success to careful preparation, script selection, and collaboration with directors rather than relying solely on spontaneous or emotionally uncontrolled performances.

Aamir Khan emphasized that filmmaking is a highly disciplined craft where every department works in coordination, and actors must respect that structure. He noted that while experimentation is important, it should not disrupt the overall vision of a film or the working environment on set.

Known for his perfectionist approach in Indian cinema, Aamir has long been associated with deeply prepared and transformation-driven roles. His comments add to ongoing discussions in the industry about the balance between creative freedom and professional discipline in acting practices.

The remarks have sparked renewed interest in the debate around method acting in Bollywood, especially among younger actors exploring different performance techniques in contemporary cinema.
