IIE DIGITAL DESK ;  September 24: South Bengal continued to remain under the grip of unsettled weather on Thursday, with rainfall reported from several districts, including South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore and West Midnapore. Kolkata and its adjoining areas also witnessed spells of rain, keeping the skies over the region largely cloudy. According to the latest forecast from the Alipore Regional Meteorological Centre, there is little possibility of an immediate respite, with rain expected to continue across several parts of South Bengal over the next 24 hours.

The weather office has forecast light to moderate rainfall at most places across South Bengal during the coming day. However, the impact of the adverse weather is expected to be comparatively stronger in the coastal and adjoining districts. South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore and West Midnapore may receive heavy rainfall in some areas, while other districts are also likely to experience intermittent showers.

Kolkata is also expected to remain under predominantly cloudy skies. Rain may occur in spells in the city and its surrounding areas, accompanied by occasional gusty winds. The continuation of cloudy and wet conditions is likely to affect normal activities in several parts of the region, particularly in areas already experiencing waterlogging or poor drainage.

The unsettled weather has also kept the sea conditions rough. With the Bay of Bengal remaining turbulent, fishermen have been advised to exercise extreme caution. The restriction on venturing into the deep sea for fishing will remain in force until September 25 in view of the adverse marine conditions. The authorities have also stepped up monitoring along coastal areas to ensure the safety of fishermen and residents.

Tourist destinations along the coast are also being kept under increased administrative surveillance. With rough seas and strong winds posing potential risks, authorities are maintaining additional vigilance in coastal areas and are expected to monitor the situation closely until the weather improves.

The prevailing weather system is not limited to South Bengal alone. Several parts of North Bengal are also expected to receive rainfall during the coming days. According to the forecast, rainfall activity in North Bengal is likely to gradually decrease after September 26. In South Bengal, meanwhile, the intensity of the weather disturbance is expected to decline after Friday, September 25, bringing the possibility of gradual improvement in conditions.

For now, however, residents of South Bengal will have to wait a little longer for a significant break from the rain. With more showers forecast over the next 24 hours and the sea continuing to remain turbulent, authorities are maintaining close watch on both inland and coastal areas. People living in vulnerable coastal districts have also been advised to remain alert as the adverse weather conditions continue.
