IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Basirhat, June 1: Fifty Bangladeshi citizens are awaiting repatriation at the Hakimpur checkpost in the Bithari Hakimpur Gram Panchayat area of Basirhat subdivision in North 24 Parganas. According to border sources, in recent days, several more Bangladeshis have arrived at this checkpost seeking to return to their country. They claimed that they had entered India illegally at different times by paying large sums to brokers and later worked as laborers across various states in India.

It has been reported that approximately 250 undocumented immigrants are currently being held across three holding centers, including Baduria and Swarupnagar. Their identities and citizenship documents are being thoroughly verified. The Border Security Force (BSF) is conducting fingerprinting, biometric data collection, and other necessary verification procedures to ensure the authenticity of each individual.

BSF sources stated that the individuals will not be repatriated to Bangladesh until their identities are fully confirmed. Once the verification process is complete, further steps will be taken in accordance with the regulations and protocols agreed upon by both countries.

The holding centers are equipped to provide necessary health services, food, drinking water, and security arrangements for men, women, and children residing there. The Ministry of Home Affairs is overseeing the overall care and management of these individuals to ensure they do not face any issues before being sent back to their country.

Authorities are maintaining strict supervision over the entire situation to ensure the process is conducted safely and efficiently. All measures are being taken to ensure compliance with legal procedures and the humane treatment of all individuals awaiting repatriation.
