New Delhi (July 24,2023) : The opposition alliance in India has called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to answer questions about the recent violence in Manipur. The violence erupted on July 21, 2023, when security forces opened fire on a group of protesters in the state's Imphal East district. The protesters were demanding the release of a Manipuri man who had been arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on charges of terrorism.

The firing left 13 people dead and over 20 injured. The opposition alliance has accused the government of using excessive force against the protesters. "The government's actions in Manipur are a clear violation of human rights," said Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Congress Party. "The prime minister must answer for this violence."
