Dehradun (August 22,2023) : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh from Tuesday, August 22. The weather agency has issued an orange alert for both states, which means that heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places.

The IMD has also warned of landslides and flash floods in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. People living in these areas have been advised to be cautious and to avoid travelling to areas that are prone to landslides and flash floods.

The heavy rain is expected to be caused by a western disturbance that is currently active over the northwestern Himalayas. The western disturbance is a storm system that originates in the Mediterranean Sea and brings rain to the northwestern Himalayas. The heavy rain is likely to cause disruption to traffic and power supply in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. People in these states have been advised to stay indoors and to avoid driving unless necessary. The IMD has said that the heavy rain will continue till Wednesday, August 23. After that, the weather is expected to improve.
