Kolkata (August 25,2023) : The ongoing feud between West Bengal's Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee took a new turn on Thursday, with Adhikari refusing to face Banerjee in a debate. Adhikari's refusal came after Banerjee challenged him to a debate on the various issues facing the state. Banerjee had said that he was ready to debate Adhikari anywhere, anytime. However, Adhikari said that he would not debate Banerjee unless he first apologized for the "false" allegations that he had made against him. Adhikari had accused Banerjee of corruption and other wrongdoings.

Adhikari's refusal to debate Banerjee has further escalated the political tensions in the state. The two leaders have been engaged in a war of words for months, and the latest development is unlikely to help to cool things down. The debate over whether or not Adhikari should debate Banerjee is likely to continue in the coming days. It remains to be seen whether the two leaders will be able to find a way to resolve their differences through dialogue.
