Kolkata (August 16,2023) : Schools in Kolkata took the opportunity of Independence Day celebrations to spread awareness about dengue among students. In South Kolkata, Jodhpur Park Boys' School organized a flag hoisting ceremony and cultural program, but also took the time to teach students about the importance of keeping their school premises clean and free of stagnant water, which can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Students were also taught to wear full-sleeved shirts and to check their homes for any waterlogging.

Principal Amit Sen Majumdar said that it was important to teach students about dengue prevention at a young age, so that they can adopt these habits for life. He also said that the school would be organizing regular awareness programs throughout the year. Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease that can be fatal, especially in young children. Kolkata has been experiencing a dengue outbreak in recent years, and the city health department has been working to control the spread of the disease. However, awareness among the public is also important, and schools can play a key role in educating students about the risks of dengue and how to prevent it.
